Imagine A Life In The Country!
Because I love to make my paintings bright and sunny I enjoyed creating this piece. I had referenced older painting styles from the 1940's and created two pastel paintings, this one and "A Day At The Lake" below. I love that period of art so I created similar paintings for our living room to go with our Craftsman furniture, also from that era.
If you've never framed a soft pastel painting, it's very easy. There are many types of paper used with chalk paintings. I always use sanded paper around a 5 or 6 grade. This gives me room for many layers and it gives me the smooth surace I like. So the paper is strong and durable for framing.
When I frame chalk paintings, I usually use a mat to keep the painting from touching the glass. If I don't use a mat, then I stick a tiny plastic insert to each corner of the painting. They are sticky on both sides. I purchase them in the framing department of stores like Walmart, Home Depot and Lowes. Once they are stuck onto the corners, I gently place the painting into the frame, I replace the backing, and it's all set to hang.
