A Magical Experience
The lake nearby my house is a serene place to sit and relax in peaceful solitude. At times, a small flock of mallard ducks glide gracefully across the water with their vibrant emerald heads catching the light. I love watching them until they disappear over the sparkling water. Secretly I wished that they would visit my home every now and then.
One morning I woke up to the sound of loud quacking coming from the backyard. A beautiful Mallard Duck was in the pool sounding agitated, not at all mirroring the peaceful quietness at the Lake. Another Mallard Duck was pacing at the edge of the pool as if in fear of joining his friend. He looked smaller than the other duck so perhaps it was a mother and her baby.
I watched them for awhile behind glass until I invaded their space with the hope of making a connection. Sadly, I ruined the moment. They quickly flew away and the magic was gone. Even so, they ignited my imagination to paint "Resting Mallards."
I decided to use my soft pastel chalk to create a soft and warm environment. I wanted them to look more peaceful like the Mallards at the lake, and I love the results. I haven't seen those two Mallard Ducks that visited my home again, but I'm still waiting!
