Living In The Light

The Sunflower

The first flower I grew from a seed was a sunflower at the age of  9, but they died after 3 months. I foolishly planted them in a spot where they didn't get much sunlight. My father advised me to find a sunnier spot, but I wanted them to grow over the fence so that my grandparents could see them.  They had just moved into the house next door.

Later as an adult, I came to realize how important living in the light is for people. The Bible consistently uses the metaphor of light to represent truth, goodness, holiness, and God's presence, while darkness symbolizes sin, ignorance, and evil.

I didn't fully come into myself until I came to live in the light about who I was. Studying the Bible helped me to stop trying to be all things for the people in my life who didn't have my best interest at heart.  So I placated them to avoid confrontation.

Once I had learned to live in the light, I made the choice to always be truthful about who I was, but to also be more understanding about people different than myself with different points of view.  Even so, I lost some family members, and I'm sorry about that, but it's oppresive not living in the truth to help others avoid it.

Living in darkness creates fear and worry. This is why it's a fundamental imperative to live in the truth. It positively impacts our relationship with God and others for the good.  It reveals who we are and builds our confidence.  It also presents us with great opportunities because we're able to identity our purpose and live it successfully.

Most of my art reflects the brightness of life, because I want to reflect this light of truth to shine through my work to reveal the heart and it's deepest truths.
