Peaking Through Hydrangeas In Oil

The Story Behind This Painting

Unlock The Power Of Art In Your Life

Nostalgia and Inspiration

I painted this picture because the scene reminds me of when my grandfather, a pastor, would take me as a child to Newport Beach (California) early in the morning to get fish.  While there wasn't a lighthouse, during the winter the ocean could be choppy and rough during the winter.

There were seagulls squalking everywhere and the smell of fish was strong.  I hated fish, but I loved accompanying my grandfather to get them. When we returned home, my grandmother would unwrap them from the newspaper and magically turn them into an unforgettable meal. She could make every food I hated taste perfect.

After lunch I would walk through the garden of my grandmother's hydrangeas and poppies (my favorite) to get to the church recreation area on the property. I would play there for hours, so when I saw a painting using these flowers I was inspired to put my grandfather's love of fresh fish and my grandmother's love of flowers together.

I completed this painting in oil, but used acrylic paint underneath over a cotton canvas panel.

Inspirational Art

A photorealistic image of an abstract acrylic painting that utilizes drips, splatters, and layered textures. The colors should be a mix of soft, earthy tones with bright pops of color, showing the beauty that can be found even in seemingly chaotic expressions. The overall mood should be one of peace and serenity, highlighting the appreciation for the imperfect, natural beauty of the artwork.
