Surrounded by Potted Flowers
When my parents retired, they bought a house with a large patio. My mother used large potted plants to decorate it and to view from within the house. I painted "Patio Life," as a reminder of the beauty they created and the lovely fragrance that made its way indoors on hot summer days.
Because I cherish the memory, I wanted this painting to depict the large bunch of wildflowers thriving in a clay pot on their patio floor. The soft pastels – pink, lavender, purple and blue – share the splender of nature's beauty.
For me, wildflowers symbolize growth and renewal, as they purposely push their way up through the soil and bloom in defiance of the harsh elements. They represent the resilience and strength of nature, and the ability to thrive even in the face of adversity.
The connection between the flowers and the earth is fiercely strong, as their roots reach deep into the soil, drawing sustenance and life from the earth itself. It reminds me of the interconnectedness of all living things, and the importance of taking care of the earth and nurturing its resources.
I hope this scene evokes feelings of peace, harmony, and a connection to an entity greater than ourselves, the ominipotent creator of all things. This is why I believe that flowers have a spiritual significance that leaves us to pause and reflect on the sacredness of nature, and the importance of cultivating a deep connection to the earth and all its inhabitants.
