Standing Tall
I invite you to step into a world of delicate beauty. If you're not familiar with the lovely Peony flower, I want to introduce them to you throughout this page.
Through my Peony oil paintings, whether a floral portrait or used to enhance a theme painting, I hope to share their value in the scheme of nature and as one of the most beautiful flowers that possesses the power of simplicity.
While I initially pay attention to detail when it comes to the petals, I use my imagination to give my peonies a look that fits with the story of my paintings. Some may look more realistic than others, depending on their importance and placement.
I used subtle shading on "Beautiful Simplicity" with a delicate stem to capture texture and sheen, but more important to reflect its graceful simplicity. I invite you to pause, breathe, and appreciate the captivating allure of this exquisite flower that teaches us that beauty is in the simple things of life. -Margaret Lukasik
Size: 9 x 12 inches. Painted in oil on a cotton canvas board that is ready to frame.
Price: $99.00Peony portraits are fun to paint. I have my own interpretation depending on the theme of the painting. I begin with thin layers of acylic paint. Then I complete each piece in Gamblin oils with a touch of realism to make them unique for every painting.
I also use peonies to enhance my paintings. I paint them to flow around people and animal portraits as well as floral paintings.

Because many of my paintings utilize Peony flowers, I want to share the elements of composition I use.
I first explore the list of diverse styles. Once I choose the floral style for a specific painting, I outline it onto the canvas in the position I want it according to my layout. I want each flower to tell a unique story through color, texture, and artistic expression.
Once I decide on a specific color palette for my flowers, I choose transparent and opaque colors in acrylic for the layers. I begin painting once I do a wash of the canvas with a light colored paint and it dries. I paint the flowers while painting the the total picture to ensure that it blends into the scene.
When dry, I create a new palette of oil colors to complete the painting. I use a variety of colors and shades of colors to complete each flower, hoping to evoke different moods or emotions.
I consider balance and harmony in the composition of each of my paintings. I spend hours, and sometimes weeks to do this. When it's time to create on canvas, I draw with water-based crayons by Caran d'Ache. Sometimes I fill in with pan pastels, a powdery substance like pastel chalk, that when wet blends into an acrylic paint.
I rarely use a projector to draw, but I have a few times. However, I don't really enjoy it. I enjoy drawing the composition onto the canvas because I have a better feel to make the subject and the flowers I use to enhance it visually appealing and harmonious.
